# Argon2 Verify > Use this Argon2 password verifier to check a Argon2 hash against a candidate password. Review match or mismatch results within the supported hash format. This **Argon2 password verifier** checks whether a candidate password matches an existing encoded Argon2 hash. Paste the password and complete stored hash to get a match or mismatch response; check the supported format limits when interpreting a failure. ## Overview & Metadata - **Canonical URL:** https://million.tools/argon2-verify/ - **Markdown Copy (.md.txt):** https://million.tools/argon2-verify.md.txt - **Plain Text Copy (.txt):** https://million.tools/argon2-verify.txt - **SEO Title:** Argon2 Password Verifier Online | Check a Argon2 Hash - **Alternative Names:** Argon2 Hash Checker, Check Argon2 Password, Argon2 hash verifier, Verify Argon2 password, Check Argon2 hash - **Category:** [Hash](https://million.tools/hash/) - **Tags:** [#Argon2](https://million.tools/tag/argon2/) - **Application Category:** `DeveloperApplication` - **Platform:** Web (All modern desktop and mobile browsers, requires JavaScript) - **Price:** Free ($0.00 USD, no registration or sign-up required) - **Live Calculation:** Supported (`Auto / Live` toggle enabled by default) - **Usage Statistics:** 2 views - **Published:** 2026-11-04 - **Last Updated:** 2026-11-04 - **Author:** Egor Volchenko (Developer & Author) ## Key Features - Check a password against a complete Argon2 hash - Choose the candidate password input encoding - Report match or mismatch status - Run manually or update with Auto / Live - Copy the verification response and clear text ## Parameters & Interface Controls ### Input Parameters & Options - `input_text`: Password / String to verify. - `hmac_key`: Hash to Verify Against. - `input_encoding`: `Hex` | `Hex (Ignore Non-Hex Characters)` | `Base64` | `UTF-8` | `UTF-16LE` | `UTF-16BE` | `Windows-1251 (Cyrillic)` | `Windows-1252 (Latin 1)` | ... (42 options) - **Controls:** `Verify`, `Clear`, `Fill test data`, `Auto / Live` ## Interactive Example (Test Vector) **Settings:** - Input Encoding: `UTF-8` - Hash to Verify Against: `$argon2id$v=19$m=65536,t=4,p=1$P3Bhz4vA7bnYyVixrwOsRQ$wN4G+Yg8iwz1fpXmNdfM7+TWNEGR36uhF6XysSUU+vw` **Password / String to verify:** ```text MilliOn.t00ls ``` **Result:** ```text VALID (Match) ``` ## How to use Argon2 Verify Use the steps below to check a candidate Argon2 password. ### Check a candidate Argon2 password 1. **Enter the candidate:** Type the test password into Password / String to verify. 2. **Supply the stored hash:** Keep Target Hash enabled and paste the complete encoded hash into Hash to Verify Against. Leave Key Encoding (Search/Type): at UTF-8. 3. **Match the password encoding:** Set Input Encoding: to the representation of the candidate password, using UTF-8 for normal text. 4. **Process the input:** Keep Auto / Live on to update the result as you edit. To work manually, turn Auto / Live off and click Run. 5. **Read the verification response:** Read Verification Result. VALID (Match) indicates a match; INVALID (Mismatch) can also indicate an unsupported or malformed hash. 6. **Copy or clear:** Click Copy to copy the result. Use Clear where shown, or a field's clear control, to clear the text. For example, the password `million-test` and hash `$argon2id$v=19$m=65536,t=4,p=1$WOTd/tGxakQ5SF4t61ZueA$/5pJ3KHg0yZxoK9yPKNLkUDCOlLu4Q1cyR2VDypU+Ls` produce `VALID (Match)`. Replacing the password with `wrong` produces `INVALID (Mismatch)`. ### Check the accepted hash format The verifier reads version-19 `argon2id`, `argon2i`, and `argon2d` strings. Its current bounds are memory at most 65536 KiB, iterations at most four, and parallelism at most four. Salt and digest fields must also fit the accepted format and length checks. ### Interpret a mismatch carefully A result of `INVALID (Mismatch)` can mean a wrong password, unsupported parameters, a malformed hash, or a verification error. Keep the full original encoded hash and match the password byte representation used when it was created. ## Frequently asked questions ### Which Argon2 variants can I verify? The verifier recognizes version-19 Argon2id, Argon2i, and Argon2d encoded hashes within its parameter and format limits. ### Can I verify a hash with larger memory or iteration settings? The current verifier caps memory at 65536 KiB, iterations at four, and parallelism at four. A hash outside those bounds is reported as invalid. ### Do I need to enter the salt separately? No. The complete encoded hash includes its salt and parameters. Do not remove those fields before pasting it. ### Why can a known password still return INVALID? The hash may exceed supported settings, be incomplete, or use a different password encoding. The same status also covers verification errors. ### Does Argon2 verification reveal the original password? No. It checks the supplied candidate against the encoded hash. Password hashes are one-way values. ### Is the text processed entirely in my browser? No. The current form sends its input to the calculation API. Use non-sensitive sample data when testing. ## Related Tools - [Argon2 Hash Generator](https://million.tools/argon2/): Generate a salted Argon2 password hash from text or encoded bytes.
