Add a Prefix or Postfix
Developer & Author —Egor VolchenkoAdd a prefix or postfix to every row of a pasted list. Put shared text before each entry or after it to build simple labels, code fragments, or repeated string patterns.
How to use Add a Prefix or Postfix
Prepare one shared affix and choose which end of each row receives it.
Prefix or Suffix Lines
- Paste the source rows into Insert list. Enter the text to add in Enter prefix or postfix.
- Leave Postfix cleared to prepend the text. Select Postfix to append the text after each row instead.
- Click Add to process the current input.
- Read Result and Number of rows. The tool joins the added text directly to each row without inserting an automatic separator.
- Click Copy under the output you want to keep. Use Clear where shown to clear the text fields; option selections stay as set.
For 123 and 456, enter ID- and leave Postfix off. Result is ID-123 and ID-456.
Outer whitespace in the affix is trimmed
Leading and trailing whitespace in Enter prefix or postfix is removed before addition. A trailing space in a proposed prefix is not preserved, so use a visible separator such as a hyphen when appropriate.
Choose one end at a time
The form supplies one affix field and a Postfix switch. To add different text at both ends, copy the first result back into the source and run a second operation with the other direction.
Append a postfix instead
Select Postfix, enter the desired suffix in Enter prefix or postfix, and click Add. For example, suffix -done changes 123 to 123-done.
Frequently asked questions
