How to use Extract or Remove Numbers

Choose between collecting digit groups and keeping the text before the first digit.

List Number Extractor

  1. Paste the source rows into Insert list. Keep related text and numbers on the same row.
  2. Under Mode, choose Extract numbers from list to collect digit groups. Choose Remove numbers from list to keep the trimmed text before the first digit.
  3. Click Execute to process the current input.
  4. Read Result and Number of rows. Extraction omits rows without digits; the removal mode returns a text prefix for every source row.
  5. Click Copy under the output you want to keep. Use Clear where shown to clear the text fields; option selections stay as set.

For Order 12 item 34, Extract numbers from list returns 12, 34. Remove numbers from list returns Order, rather than keeping all the nonnumeric words.

Digit groups are not full numeric values

Extraction recognizes groups of digits 0 through 9. Signs and decimal separators are not part of a group, so -12.5 becomes 12, 5.

Removal stops at the first digit

Remove numbers from list discards the first digit and everything after it. It is useful for text prefixes, but does not remove digits while preserving all later text.

Keep the text before the first number

Select Remove numbers from list under Mode and click Execute. Review the trimmed prefixes in Result; content after the first digit is discarded.

Frequently asked questions

No. It extracts digit groups, not signed decimal values. For example, -12.5 is returned as 12, 5.
