Remove Text Before or After a Symbol
Developer & Author —Egor VolchenkoRemove text before or after a symbol in every row of a list. This is useful for keeping one part of consistently separated labels or codes without manually editing each entry.
How to use Remove Text Before or After a Symbol
Choose the marker and cutting direction that keep the part of each row you need.
Trim Text by Symbol
- Paste one entry per row into Insert list. Replace the value in Symbol with the single character that marks the cut point.
- Select Remove before to keep text after the first occurrence. Select Remove after to keep text before the last occurrence. Enable only the directions you need.
- Click Execute to process the current input.
- Read Result and inspect a few rows with repeated symbols. A row without the chosen symbol remains unchanged.
- Click Copy under the output you want to keep. Use Clear where shown to clear the text fields; option selections stay as set.
For red:apple and plain, set Symbol to : and keep only Remove after selected. Result is red and plain.
The matching symbol is excluded
The symbol at the cut point is removed along with the selected side. Matching is literal and case-sensitive; a character that looks similar may still be a different Unicode character.
Repeated symbols change the cut point
Remove before uses the first occurrence, while Remove after uses the last. When both are enabled, the before operation runs first and the after operation works on what remains.
Keep text after the marker
To keep the right-hand portion, select Remove before and clear Remove after. With a colon as Symbol, red:apple becomes apple.
